Mother's Day

"Our cellular life begins in the womb of our grandmother, where generations intermingle and interact and integrate." —Lisa Lackey

On this day, we pause to reflect, honor, celebrate—and sometimes mourn—all at the same time.

As I prepared to write this message, I found myself thinking about my mother and my grandmother. I realized that from Camille (my grandmother), to my mom Mijo, to me (Camille), and now to my daughter Mijo, we have been mingling, interacting, and integrating across generations.

I now understand the deeper reason behind changing my name a few years ago. The symmetry it created has been a beautiful, unexpected gift.

Yet neither my grandmother nor my mother could have prepared their daughters for the lives they would lead—just as I couldn’t have foreseen the life my daughter Mijo is now living. How do we prepare our children for a future we cannot see?

This is where Isaiah 8:11–17 speaks to our insecurities and offers us hope. It calls us to trust in the Lord. May we lean into those words, wherever we are in our journeys of motherhood.
