Lent: Seven Deadly Sins/Beatitudes-Pride
Lent. noun. ˈlent. : a period of fasting and regret for one's sins that is observed on the 40 week days from Ash Wednesday to Easter by many churches.
The church season of Lent starts this Wednesday. It feels like there are at least 2 ways to think about it. One way has a more negative tone to it (seen in the definition above), where we place ourselves soberly before our shortcomings, considering where we fall into sin and resolve to discipline ourselves toward greater holiness. Another way to consider Lent feels more positively, where we set aside a season to remember the love of Jesus and His work on our behalf, an invitation into further fellowship with God. Either way, Lent is a great season to consider the invitations placed before.
Each day we are invited to move toward life with Christ, or move toward a life that prioritizes self and self interests. Some have seen the life in Christ represented in His "Beatitudes." Some frame the movement to self with the church word "sin." Throughout its history, the Church has developed categories for sin, one being "the seven deadly sins." This season of Lent, Mosaic will be having a conversation between these 2 invitations, between the Beatitudes and the Seven Deadly Sins, using Jeff Cook's book "Seven." Our hope for this conversation is that it will open our eyes to where we can grow and move towards a deeper relationship with Jesus. See you this Sunday as we begin this conversation ~Aaron
