Advent 2 - Mighty God

In the season of Advent we give ourselves permission to long. We long for things to be made right. We long for peace. We long for restoration. We long for wholeness. In this season we look to passages like Isaiah 9 and consider the messiah, Jesus, who has come, and will come again. We look at the titles given to the messiah in verse 6, “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” For some, the image of “sweet baby Jesus” seems a contradiction to these titles, especially “mighty God.” So how does this title of God’s might, the messiah’s power, align with our longings for peace?
