Vision of God's Rule
When Jesus taught his followers about prayer, he said they ought to pray this,
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.”
It is the line, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” that I would like to suggest we think about.
What does that mean to us?
What do you believe “heaven” or life when the fullness of God’s kingdom is realized, looks like? Who will be there?
It is my understanding that Jesus was not just teaching us to pray a rote prayer, but instructing us to live as those for whom God is king. This could be the summary of our whole life on earth as Christ followers; “pursuing a life of doing God’s will as a demonstration of God’s rule and reign in our life.”
It is interesting to see what happened to the NT writers when they got a glimpse of this future reality.
Let’s talk about it this week.
